3D and Piracy Exam

To what extent does internet piracy pose a threat on the film industry?

I personally thing that Internet Piracy does pose a threat on the film industry because with modern technology that is now around it is becoming more easy to download films from the internet for free. The new Wolverine film that was realised is an example. Someone got there hands on it before it came out and stuck it onto the internet so the film didn't make a huge profit in the cinema. This is bad for other film companies not just hollywood because with the new technology that we have we can easily just go onto a computer to watch any film we wish to watch. This the film industries hardest challenge to try and beat. The way they have done this is 3D. 3D has become huge now. Nearly every film has been made 3d as well as old films to be remade into 3D. The reasons for this is because people cant stream 3D films through the internet because the screens are right for the film plus at the cinemas it cost loads so the film is most likely going to get its money back. Nearly everyone watches films online because there easy to access. In early cinema films would be on massive round, heavy disks that would hold the film. Sometimes there would be two of them where it cant hold to much films and the cinemas would have intermissions half way through the film. Now its sent via email where its actually even more dangerous to get a hold of (for the film companies) Hackers can easily get there hold on these films and stick the onto the internet. These people who stick films onto the internet have become high on the film industries WANTED lists. Megaupload is a huge example. Kim Dotcom is the owner of Megaupload. He took films and stuck the on the internet for free. His house was raided and he was taken to court. This is how bad the film industry has got that people are actually getting arrested for illegally downloading films. We all watch films online because we have become to lazy and cheap to go out to a cinema and spend money on them or buy the DVD.
Hollywood/Mainstream films see piracy as a threat.
Independent films dont see this as much as a threat then hollywood/mainstream film because they want people to see these films and know who they are.
Internet piracy also allows people to promote films for free.

The technological impact of 3D is that 3D has become an prevention from illegal downloads as well as trying to appeal to a wider audience for people who like 3D. Most film directors don't want to do 3D film because they believe its pointless but with massive film industries who want money out of it they forced these directors to put it in there somewhere just to show it off. The Amazing Spiderman was a 3D film and there was literally 2 scenes in 3D, one being half way though when Peter Parker is jumping over buildings and another where Spiderman shoots a bit of web at the screen......pointless. This shows that the directors didn't want to do a 3D film but just put it in there so a wider audience will go and see an action 3d film where 3D is adored (in the action Genre) This has a bigger effect on cinematography by using certain camera shots that show of 3D. sometimes you dont have a choice in what film you want to watch because its just in 3D. 3D is more expeinsive then 2D so its just looking for profit.

Social impacts are used to watching films online and how entitled to watch films for free. I believe that 3D is a waste of money and is pointless. It should only be used at places like theme parks for little kids and cartoons. Its making cinema more of theme park experiance for kids and its lessed focused about story and more about visuals. This is the audience fault because of the films that we watch online. Most directors love it but some have put 3D in there films not cos they like it but because its something people like and it gets more money. Critics always talk about 3D in film and talk about if it works or not. Most of them hate it because its just in there for no reason, 3D is around to try and stop websites such as Megaupload to try and stop illegal downloads because people cant download 3D film.

3D film has grossed so much money for the film industry. This is because the prices are stupidly high and you cant watch them at home unless you have a 3D TV. It has definitely made a huge impact in the  film Industry and cinema attendance due to the fact no one can sit at home at watch them. It has made modern film industries try to create more 3D films as well. A major example is the fact that there now bringing old time classics that now late teenagers ranging from 16 - 19 to go back to the cinema to watch films such as Lion King in 3D because of the experience of modern cinema and its also to make the company who made the film even more money because its an old film and 3D will cost people loads of money. I don't see the point in this because i would happily chose a Video version of the film because its a better experience for me and brings back my childhood other then the 3D version which the films poster always has "A blast from the past" wrote on it.

Economically 3D film has made so much money that more and more studios are using it including cartoons. This is because people are spending so much money on tickets as well as food and drink. Cinema attendance has gone up by so much. If a new actor is a main character in a 3D film they are an intent star in the film industry as well as the director of the film. 3D is an expensive thing so if a director uses it and a no body actor is in the film as the main role they will get huge from it. 3D has got to the point where they have run out of ideas so they will make Prequels, Remakes, Sequels and even make old films 3D. This brings in a guaranteed audience that will bring people back to watch the film if it was a success. This prevents risk taking and Guarantees that they are investing money into a film that old and new people will love that they have already watched before and will get there money back. It will be the same films you saw years ago just in 3D. we can just watch them at home on our DVDs or even Videos instead of wasting loads of money to watch a film we already own but because its in 3D more people will want to watch it.

In conclusion the film industry sees it has a huge threat to the film industries profits which come from the box office and in turn the money that they get from that goes into production budget. This profit is going into re creating old films but in 3D.
i would have to say that 3D is a waste of money and time. its pointless. film makers will put it in there for half a minute just for an accuse for there to be 3D in it and make more money. The threat of piracy has shot down because no one can watch a 3D film without the right technology. These studios and producers don't care on the fans they just care about the 3D and the money it will make. Its at that point where most films have such a lame and weak story that they don't care as long as its action, in 3D and has some form sex appeal (transformers)
